Planetary nebula M27

Planetary nebula M27 or Dumbbell nebula is in the constellation Vulpecula (Vul).

M27

Equatorial coordinates (epoch J2000):
Ra 19h 59.6m, Dec +22° 43'

Visual magnitude: 7,4m
Distance to the nebula M27 to the Sun is 1150 light years
Angular size: 8,4'×6,1'
External dimensions the nebula M27 are about 3,0 light years.
Age of the object M27 is 9000 years

Discoverer: Charles Messier, 1764 year.

The designation M27 in other catalogs: NGC 6853

Optimum magnification for a telescope with observations of M27, depending on the aperture of the telescope (D), is about D/4-D/2. Higher magnifications of course add details, but lead to a strong drop in the brightness of the image, making it difficult to observe.
The best month for observing M27 is August.
