Planetary nebula M76 or Little Dumbbell nebula is in the constellation Perseus (Per).


Equatorial coordinates (epoch J2000):
Ra 01h42.3m, Dec +51° 34'

Visual magnitude: 10,1m
Distance from the nebula M76 to the Sun is 2550 light years
Angular size: 67"
External dimensions the nebula M76 are about 0,7 light years.

Discoverer: Pierre François André Méchain, 05.09.1780 year.

Optimum magnification for a telescope with observations of M76, depending on the aperture of the telescope (D), is about D/3-D. Higher magnifications of course add details, but lead to a strong drop in the brightness of the image, making it difficult to observe.
The best month for observing M76 is November.
