Planetary nebula M27

Die offener Sternhaufen M27 or Dumbbell Planetary nebula is in the constellation Vulpecula (Vul).

Visual magnitude: 7,4m
Distance from the nebula M27 to the Sun is 1150 light years
Angular size: 8,4'×6,1'
External dimensions the nebula M27 are about 3,0 light years.
Age of the object M27 is 9000 years

Discoverer: Charles Messier, 1764 year.

Optimum magnification for a telescope with observations of M27, depending on the aperture of the telescope (D), is about D/4-D/2. Higher magnifications of course add details, but lead to a strong drop in the brightness of the image, making it difficult to observe.

The best month for observing M27 is August. At this time, the object is at midnight near its highest point in the sky, that is, it is less affected by light from the lanterns and atmospheric distortions.
